The Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art
What a Wonderful World



For the fifth time a selection of some of the most interesting and relevant within the international contemporary art scene is exhibited during ten weeks around Gothenburg. This year’s edition What a Wonderful World is curated by Johan Pousette and Celia Prado and presents works by 17 artists from different parts of the world. The main exhibition venues are Röda Sten, Göteborgs Konsthall, Göteborg City Museum, City Library of Göteborg, Göteborg Museum of Art and Gallery Box. An additional seven artists show their films at the cinema Bio Capitol for the duration of the Biennial.

Four of the artists are presented at Göteborgs Konsthall:
Kutluğ Ataman Born 1961 in Turkey, lives and works in Turkey/Great Brittain
Twelve (2004) video installation
Tim Etchells Born 1962, lives and works in Great Brittain
City Changes (2008) inkjet prints
Susan Hiller Born 1940, in USA, lives and works in Great Brittain
The Last Silent Movie (2007), sound piece and etchings
Kristina Kvalvik Born 1980 in Norway, lives and works in Denmark.

In addition to these four artists the artist's book Diggers and Dreamers by Love Enqvist is for sale, Tracy Moffatt exhibit the video Doomed (2007) at Göteborg Museum of Art, in the space between Göteborgs Konsthall and the museum, and at the City Library of Göteborg Hariton Pushwagner exhibit the drawing installation Soft City (1969-75).

Seminar programme
THE SALOON
14-18 October

The Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art is committed to exploring new ways of mediating the works presented in the Biennial to local, international and specifically Nordic audiences. The 2009 Biennal will investigate its’ thematics What a Wonderful World further through The Saloon, a series of artist talks during five days, from October 14-18. The Saloon is a critical programme inviting dialogue and participation from a wide public as well as arts and cultural professionals in order to engage the whole knowledge base that this Biennial seeks to represent.

The Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art is Sweden’s largest international biennial for contemporary art, and has been arranged since 2007 by Röda Sten with support principally from the Göteborg City Cultural Committee, Region Västra Götaland, the Swedish Arts Council, and Kulturkontakt Nord.
